First Minister opens new HQ for Wales’ top Independent Financial Adviser

18th January 2007

New headquarters for Wales’ largest Financial Advice company were officially opened in Rhyl today (Thursday, January 18) by First Minister Rhodri Morgan.

Buckles Investment Services Ltd. is one of Britain’s top 100 Independent Financial Adviser firms – and one of the top 50 fastest growing companies in Wales.

In November last year, the company won a national award for ‘The Most Innovative Training Programme’ against competition from Barclays, Lloyds TSB and HSBC. Over the past three years, 32 graduates have completed Buckles’ training programme to qualify as independent financial advisers.

The company, formed ten years ago, had outgrown its previous location in the centre of Rhyl and, assisted by an Assembly Investment Grant, has moved to new premises at Derwen House, Ffordd Derwen.                                                                                                                                                        Photo: Jan Willmott

The move will mean the recruitment of nine more graduate trainees and three administrative staff.

Opening the company’s new offices today, First Minister Rhodri Morgan said: “I’m delighted that the Assembly Government was able to support this latest expansion by Buckles Investment Services.

“The company’s dynamic growth, professional quality and emphasis on innovative training make it an exemplary representative of an increasingly important sector of the Welsh economy. Some 28,000 people are now employed in 1,800 financial services business in Wales. Together they contribute 5 per cent of Wales’ total GDP.

“Buckles success in providing services to clients across much of the United Kingdom from its base in North Wales demonstrates the potential opportunities that are now open to Welsh finance sector firms of Buckles’ calibre.”

Buckles, which was first established in 1973, now provides independent financial advice to more than 25,000 clients through a national network of advisers. The firm has more than £300 million of funds under management, over £120 million of which is in the company’s Snowdonia range of funds.

In September last year, Buckles significantly strengthened its presence in North Wales and North West England through the acquisition of Chester-based Quinn Thomas & Partners.
